There is no scandisk in XP. The XP equivalent is called chkdsk.
Enter chkdsk at the Start | Run line.

Start > open MY Computer > Right click on selected drive > properties >
Tools > Error Checking > Check now > Select the options > start > now it
will start scanning when you will restart the PC

Scandisk is NOT now called chkdsk. Scandisk has never existed in any
NT OS. NT (NT/2000/XP) has always used chkdsk.

Hi!
just to add that there is no "scandisk" like that of 9x which is not
currently supported. Use the chkdsk command, which enables you to create
and display a status report for a disk based on the file system. Chkdsk
also lists and corrects errors on the disk.

Greetings --

WinXP does not have a program called "Scandisk," as this was a
Win9x/Me program. Instead, because WinXP is descended from the
WinNT/2K OS family, it has a command line utility called "Chkdsk,"
which performs much better, as it's not burdened with presenting a
pretty picture of moving blocks of color while it's working.

Start > Run > Cmd > Chkdsk.exe /? for the correct syntax and
available options.

Alternatively, double-click My Computer > right-click the desired
hard drive > Properties > Tools > Error-checking/Check Now. This will
run Chkdsk, normally on the next reboot.
