Run Outlook on a stand alone computer

Is it possible to run Outlook on a stand alone computer. When I try to run
outlook, I get an error message stating "Unable to display the selected
folder or item. Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter
values are not valid."

Have you correctly configured a mail profile and an account in that profile?
