Run-As, Admin work-around

J

Jeff McE

Hello,

Would appreciate any ideas on this.

Running Win2K SP4 on a lan with a tight GP thru AD (general users are fairly
well restricted). I installed some software on one of the work stations
that needs to have users run the app with admin rights. I've tried opening
up rights on the program folder with no success, the app still wants users
running as admin. Is there a way to use the 'run-as' feature on the
shortcut to this app with out having to fill in the adminstrative user &
psswd everytime the users access this app? I can't give users this psswd.
Or is there another way?

Hope that enough to go on.
Appreciate the advise and sorry for the cross post -as I'm unsure of this

Thanx
jeff

a) Complain to the software developer about this - it's simply lazy
programming.
b) See if www.sysinternals.com helps - RegMon and FileMon - see if you can
determine where exactly the users need rights, and change the permissions.
c) If no joy, there are third party runas utilites that won't expose the
credentials - I don't have a list handy, unfortunately, but you might
google.

Palmersoft page is unusable while "new site is under construction". Hmm...

It is perfectly useless to know the right answer to the wrong question.
