Is there any way to create a rule that will detect if an appointment has
come into the mailbox? We've got a generic temporary account in our office
that is used for casual employees, and that account needs to be included on
our office mail distribution list. The trouble is that this account is
seldom used and may not be opened for weeks at a time. To counter this, I
set up a rule that would autoforward a mail to the office distribution list
if the temp account was the only recipient. Now our distribution list
receives appointment requests sometimes, but the autoforward rule then sends
a copy of the request to everyone in this office. I'd like to put in a rule
that says "If an appointment request arrives, delete it and stop processing
more rules"

Any suggestions?

Well you found it already I think. This is a possible rule. Make sure you
start with a blank rule and not based on a template when you create it and
set it to process first and then the autoforward rule second.

I understand the logic in creating a rule; the problem is that Outlook XP
doesn't have the ability (that I can see) to specifically perform an action
on a specific object; in this case an Appointment. Is there a way to get it
to only work on an Appointment?

Yes, this option is available in Outlook 2003. I'm not sure if it was
already in previous versions. Otherwise you could create a rule and set the
condition to "based on a specific form" and set this to the appointment
form.
