When rules direct mail to a folder (subfolder of the inbox), why don't I get
notified when I get new mail? Outlook does not play a sound or show the new
mail icon in the taskbar unless the new mail is in the inbox itself. Outlook
XP used to do that.

it's how outlook works... since you use ol2003, use search folders instead
of rules or add notification action to the rules if you want to be alerted.

So, this has changed in Outlook 2003?

The rule works, but plays two sounds when mail comes into the inbox and one
sound when mail arrives to a folder within the inbox. I can live with that.
