rules for forwarding don't work

Hi all..

I've observed some bizarre behavior with outlook 2002. I have a rule to
forward e-mail to an external account.. Here is the bizarre behavior

1. The rule won't work unless you run it manually
2. Even when the rule works, mail doesn't get forwarded
to the external account
A. You can even observe the mail going to
the outbox..
B. A copy of the forwarded message is placed
in my "Sent Items" folder, but it still doesn't arrive
at the external account!!
C. I don't receive a non-delivery report
D. About 50% of the time, I receive a "rule
won't run in current mode". I can't distinguish what
the difference is between the "current
mode" that almost works and the "current
mode" that doesn't work at all
E. I know that the contact I'm using the for
the rule works, because I have forward messages
manually to that particular contact name
and works fine that way.....
F. I have tested this in multiple internal
e-mail accounts on multiple machines and to multiple
external e-mail addresses. ALL have the EXACT SAME BEHAVIOR

I'm also the e-mail administrator here, so If I need to post this in the
server group, I will...

Is this with Exchange in the mix because if yes then Exchange is configured
to NOT Auto Forward

I was wondering if there was a setting for that..

Do you know where that variable is set in Exchange 2000 Server??

Thanks so much for responding...

Launch Exchange System Manager || Expand Global Settings || Select Internet
Message Format || in the Right Hand Pane go into the Properties of Default *
and select the Advanced Tab. Note setting Auto Reply/ Auto Forward could
open you up for mail looping.

Got it, It worked, thanks a bunch...

I wonder if this will work for re-direction as well??

I will worry about mail looping, but I'll implement this now and try to come
up with a stronger solution later

thanks again for your help
