Rules dont run automatically!

I know there is a 19 post discussion on this but I see no answers there only
everyone with the same problem.

I'm running Outlook 2002 with windows XP Pro

I have about 10 rules to run on new mail, but i can only get it to work
manually, although some seem to work sometimes. Infuriating! I've even
deleted all the rules and started them again. should it make a difference if
I click on yes to add to outlook bar, as I normally select no!

What do these rules do? At what point do they stop working? Does it work
when you create a single rule?
Make sure you've got your rules sorted correctly and that you add the
condition "and stop processing rules" when appropriate.
