THANK YOU! I have been trying for MONTHS to get the Horizontal Ruler to stop "disappearing"! Why isn't this in HELP? Or if it is, why isn't there a link in HELP that is triggered by the word "Ruler"??

Help - I can't get the ruler at the top of the document to stay displayed. I have gone through tools, options and checked Vertical ruler - but it just won't display. If I go on the document where the ruler is supposed to be it will give me two arrows and if I wait the ruler will diplay as long as I keep my mouse there. This is very annoying because I can't use the ruler for setting my tabs -- I can't see anything

There is some confusion here. You say "the ruler at the top of th
document", and then you say "Vertical ruler". The ruler at the top o
the document is the horizontal ruler, not the vertical ruler.
I assume that you really want the horizontal ruler
In Word 2002, you make the horizontal ruler visible by setting View
Ruler. (NOT Tools | Options | etc!) If you clear this option but hav
Tools | Options | General | "Provide feedback with animation" checked
the ruler auto-hides. If you clear both options, the ruler is no
visible
Word has a nasty habit of changing your option settings for you. I
has been reported that recording a macro to turn off options i
spelling and grammar checking will incidentally turn on "Provid
feedback with animation"
There is a long-standing bug that sometimes causes both rulers t
disappear if you are in Print Layout View and you create a selectio
that extends across a page boundary
If you really want the vertical ruler
This ruler is available only in Print Layout View; and then only i
Tools | Options | View | "Vertical ruler" is checked. In Word 2002 th
vertical ruler disappears even in Print Layout View if you use th
"hide white space between pages" feature
