Rule to automatically delete messages after a set time period

I receive emails from various professional journals and national newspapers
each day. Oftentimes I don't have time or are not available to read them.
How can I automatically delete a daily email after 24 hours or 72 hours or
....?

AutoArchive can delete instead of move to an archive PST.

you'd need to filter them to a folder then set up autoarchive to delete the
messages after a day or two. Or use a tool like Auto-Mate that runs rules
hours after messages arrive.

I think I understand what you are saying: Create a rule to move the emails
(say, the ones that compile the Daily News Update from my home newspaper) to
a folder that I call "NEWS" (or whatever). Then, right-click on that folder
and tell it to delete messages after x days instead of autoarchiving. Is
that what you meant?

Thanks. i didn't see your response and just now asked if what was meant was
exactly what you suggested. Sounds like a plan.
