Computer: OAP1
Description:
The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific

Event Source: rasctrs
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2001
Date: 2/12/2004

Description:
The description for Event ID ( 2001 ) in Source ( rasctrs ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. The following information is part of the event: The event log
file is corrupt..

I found article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;823405
That notes a similar error, but SP4 has been on this machine for months
without any problems with RRAS. I've tried deleting and recreating the
log file as well. I this likely a patch bug?

Thanks,
-Andy

Hi Robert,

There are no known patches that cause any problems with RRAS. Most likely it was the result
of the reboot after the patches were applied that triggered a pending change that caused this
issue. This is often caused by third party drivers, especially updates to backup software. One
such issue is as follows:

Veritas driver for the tape backup device is installed
04mmdat.sys
Disabled this driver in the registry
Disabled all Veritas Services
RRAS starts and runs normally after this
Starts and runs on a system boot, stops and starts normally in the Services
applet

So with this in mind, you may want to check for any third party drivers causng this issue. Try
disabling third party software and reboot the server. Then narrow it down by re-enabling those
products a little at a time.

Hope this helps,
Gary
