RRAS and DHCP

Brian

I have a RRAS server setup for dial-up only that gets its
IP addresses from a DHCP server on my lan. My DHCP server
constantly has all leases used by the RRAS server
although no one is connected. I have to manually release
addresses for people to be able to dial in. I've
uninstalled and reinstalled DHCP, lowered the time the
lease is valid for, etc. with no luck.

Can anyone offer me additional tips to try?

Thanks.

As soon as your RRAS service starts, it will request a pool of IPs from you
DHCP Server. It is just to speed up the process.

It is not a big amont (in fact I don't remember)... Maybe there is a
parameter somewhere to limit this number (registry, NETSH, ...)

I hope this helps.

This is due to the number of interfaces enabled for RAS.
I suggest you remove some so that it will not request so
many IP addresses. I know you didn't enable them on
purpose but the system activated them without your
knowledge. Expand the RAS server in the mmc. Right click
on ports, left click on properties, and configure the
number of ports you want for each type device.
