RPC problem

This will be a tough one I think but I am hoping someone has and idea. I
have a Windows XP SP1 machine that is running a Java based webapp on a server
sitting on another subnet through a NAT connection. When running the app I
get an error Advise Failed! RPC server unavailable. Everything I can find on
similar errors points to DNS or some other connectivity problem. I can ping
the web server from my host. I have also added in the appropriate host
record in the DNS server that the web server sits on. I just wonder if it is
some sort of name resolution issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
