Roxio Direct CD Creator

I have Roxio Direct CD Creator 5.1. Just bought a new notebook computer and
installed the software, and was successful in reading from a CD-RW disk I
had previously formatted and recorded to using my desktop. But, when I tried
to drag a NotePad text file to the CD (thus writing to it), I got a message
that the files on the CD are read-only and cannot be changed. What do I need
to do to make this drive a true drag a drop device? Thanks in advance!

Update to v5.3. I believe that v5.1 is not fully compatible with WinXP

I think you're right. I will upgrade to whatever the latest version is.
Thanks!

Have you tried a virgin CD-RW?

There is no standard that says a how a CD-RW written on one drive will
behave in another drive.
Better to use only CD-Rs, which do have standards.

I just bought some black CD-Rs, as I was told they are good to use for
important backups. I will try one of those. Thanks to all!

You need to install the DIrect CD component of that package. Go to the
www.roxio.com site and get the latest version of Easy CD 5.3.5 and
install it, making sure that you include installing Direct CD.

You reference Direct CD, but it is unclear if your CD-RW disk was formatted
with the same version you now have installed. CD's written with earlier
version of the packet writing application Direct CD are not always
compatable with the later versions. If you don't resolve the problem here,
check the Roxio web site KB for help with your problem.
If you have access to a computer that still reads the disk, you should copy
the disk to the hard drive or compatible removable media. You will then have
new options to backup the information.
