Routing Help Needed

I have setup two networks at home, for hands-on practice to obtain my W2K
MCSA.
I need both networks to talk to each other and for all PCs to have Internet
Access.

My first network on Floor1 consists of:

CableRouter PC01 LAPTOP1 LAPTOP2
192.168.1.1 192.168.1.2 DHCP (CableRouter) DHCP
(CableRouter)
255.255.255.0 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server (192.168) DG 192.168.1.1
DNS1 xx.xx.xxx.xx (From RR)
DNS2 xx.xx.xxx.xxx (From RR)

All Floor1 computers connect into the CableRouter and can talk to each other
and access the Internet with no troubles.

My second network on Floor2 consists of:

3COM HUB W2K SERVER 1 LAPTOP3 PC02
(Passive) NIC1 172.16.1.1 DHCP (W2K SRV) DHCP (W2K SRV)
255.255.255.0
DG - NONE
NIC2 192.168.1.11
255.255.255.0 (Cable connects into CableRouter)
DG - NONE
DHCP Server (172.16)

I have enabled Routing and Remote Access on the W2K Server and installed RIP
v2.
In the Registry of the W2K Server, I have enabled IPRouting.

Here are my issues:

1) My W2K Server can browse the Internet ONLY if I change NIC2 to DHCP
(CableRouter)
or I manually enter the DG - 192.168.1.1 and DNS1, DNS2 IPs from RR.

2) I can only ping NIC1 and NIC2 of the W2K Server from the 172.16.1.0
network PCs
There is no Internet Access

3) Same for the 192.168.1.0 network PCs - they cannot ping any 172.16.1.0
network
PCs.

4) If I remove the CableRouter from the network, everyone can ping everyone.
I can
see shares, printers, etc on both networks from all PCs. This leads me to
believe
it is something simple in the CableRouter, but I don't know.

5) I did not create ANY STATIC routes. I just added both interfaces on my
W2K Server
to the RIP v2.

1) Where are the first two lines in the first routing table coming from?
They
are not in the second table with the CableRouter not connected.

2) Is it even possible for my scenario to work with a home Cable/DSL Router?

3) Is there something I need to change in the CableRouter? (I am limited as
to what I can alter via the web interface.)

4) Do I need to turn DHCP off on the W2K Server or the CableRouter?

Thanx for taking the time to look over my scenario and I'll appreciate any
help to
get this working and me to understand HOW it was done.

After giving this more thought, and seeing a post by Bill Grant, I don't
believe I can do what I want because of my CableRouter. I am using a Siemens
SPeedStream 2614 Cable/DSL Router and their tech support says that device
does not have a route table built in, so I cannot add the necessary STATIC
route to enable the 172.16.1.x network to access the Internet.

I will remove the Cable/DSL Router and put in it's place another W2K RRAS
Server and try.
