Router question

I have a question about setting up two computers through the router. I
understand the connection from the router to the modem for my laptop
or desktop, but how does the computer in my sons room pick up the
signal from the wireless router? Does he need a wireless card
installed in his computer?

Either a PCI card or a USB adapter.

actually this is a hardware related question and should be directed to the
hardware group.

but anyway, yes each compugter requires a wireless NIC card to talk to your
router
and it has to match the router.

To make that a little clearer:

Many laptops have a Wireless device built into them, so he may already
have a wireless adapter in his laptop.

Wireless on many devices is OPEN, meaning that anyone can connect to it,
but newer devices are shipping with wireless disabled until it's secured
or setup by following the installation/setup instructions.

As for matching, the only thing that has to match is the communication
mode and encryption - they can be different vendors products.
