Hello:
I'm running XP Pro with SP2. I have a Dlink 624 router
attached to a DSL modem that works perfectly when I start
it after the computer has been turned on. However, if I
leave the router powered up and reboot my computer I get a
blue screen during computer start-up saying that I have a
serious hardware problem. Once the router is turned off
the computer starts up fine although windows informs me
that a serious problem occurred and do I want to inform
MS. I'd prefer not to have to unplug my router every time
I start my computer. What could be causing the hardware
problem?
Thanks,
John

I suspect a problem with Ethernet network adapter or its driver
program. Go to Device Manager, un-install the adapter, reboot, and
let XP Pro re-install it.

Rare chance it could be a UPnP problem. Try disabling UPnP in the router. .
..

A few other things that come to mind:
1. Disable NIC's Boot from LAN feature
2. Force NIC to 10 or 100 Mbps (disable auto-negotiation)
3. Use a different LAN cable and/or change ports on the router's switch/hub.
3. Place a hub between your NIC & the router
