Hi All,

Can anyone shed light on the following problem when attempting to run the
'repair' opition for a wired LAN connection:

Error message:
The following steps of the repair operation failed: Purging the DNS cache.

The router is acting as the DHCP server and is handing out addresses OK.
When I check its statistics table it lists the connected puters as 'unknown'
previously it resolved them to their correct names.

Any ideas ??

Thanks,

Neil

Is the DNS client service running?

Start | Run | enter "services.msc";
Look for DNS client.

If it's stopped, try starting it.
To start it at boot-time, double-click it, and set it's startup type to
Automatic.

Thanks Ron,

The dns client service is running but still the problem exists.....

Any further thoughts ??

Neil

Again,

Foiled by the illogical step of not closing other software when
investigating problems.
Zone Alarm was set to disallow Windows Explorer access to the internet.

Allowing access solves the DNS purge problem.....

Another lesson learnt.

Cheers,

Neil
