I am looking for some software that will allow me to move furniture/objects
around a room/house to get an idea of what it will look like. Any freeware
available? Thanks for your help.

I'm looking for a similar program. I've looked fruitlessly for a
simple program with no large learning curve to design a home plan,
floor plan better describes the job.

We're looking to build within a year and we would like to design
outter walls, inner walls, doors, windows, counter tops, etc. and add
things in scale, such as refrigerators, washer, dryer, water heater,
etc. to see how they "fit". A foot scale would be really great!

I'm not sure there is a freeware app that fits the bill. I've looked
at sharewares that look really great, but I'm a freeware buff.

Good luck on your request harsha.

Hi harsha,

IMO the various "Furnish" apps are hard to beat for that kind of task.
These programs are created by Geac Computer Corporation Limited -
released under various names by other companies.

There's a list of them here:

You can "shop around" for furniture - each app comes with a different
collection. I suggest you try one of the IKEA apps first to get an idea
of what they're like:

Program: Furnish: IKEA kitchen planner
Author: Geac Computer Corporation Limited
Ware: Freeware

Program: Furnish: IKEA Office planner
Author: Geac Computer Corporation Limited
Ware: Freeware
http://www.ikea-usa.com/ms/en_US/rooms_ideas/office/download1.html

(See the ACF page for links to the metric versions of the above.)

See my reply to harsha's post. :)

Can do (almost all of the above). :)

Thank you. May we both be lucky.

You're welcome !

You may also want to dl one of the recommended VRML veiwers from the current
main page (located near the bottom). This, so you can view your designs in
3d. (nice feature). And, as always, run your anti-spyware softwares after
the installs for 'peace of mind'.
