Roaming Profiles

I have a few sites that are running an ISDN with no servers at their locations. We are using roaming profiles and it is taking quite sometime to login. We believe that the roaming profiles are the reason however managment wants roaming profiles. Is there a way to limit the size of a roaming profile?

Do not permit keeping the files/directories on the users desktops, redirect
MyDocuments and other users directories to the server share, enhance the
policy 'Exclude directories in roaming profile' etc. Convince the management
having at least NT4 BDCs on sites if the domain is in the mixed mode yet.
