RIS TO WDS

Hi All,
I decided to upgrade from RIS on W2k3 Sp1 to Windows Deployment Services on
W2k3 SP2 and now I'm having some problems. I'm unable to get to setup a boot
image. I converted my WinXP image to the new .wim file. However, I cannot
seem to get to add a boot image. I'm geting "The file does not contain a
valid boot image" when I click next, as a result I can't go further. Is
there any tutorials that I can be directed to so as to help my cause.
THanks
Nik

Sounds like your WIM image doesn't contain a boot sector.

When you created the WIM with imagex did you specify a boot sector?

Hey I used the console "legacy Images" option and converted the existing
image. How do I go about using the imageX option and what is the imageX
about.
thanks

Right. I've not done this as yet. Imagex is the program that allows you to
manipulate WIM images. You can extract the files, add remove and change
files then suck it back up into the WIM image.

I take it is was a riprep image?

Also, I think you should be adding it as an Install image, rather than a
boot image. Boot images are for PXE booting off in order to do another task
(like sucking up a WIM image from a built machine). Install images are for
deploying operating systems, which sounds like what you are trying to do.

I suggest that you download the Windows Automated Install Kit (WAIK) and
have a look at the doco for manipulating WIM images.

Cheers,
Jeremy.
