Right Clicking No Longer Works

For reasons I cannot determine, nothing happens when I right click a
file, folder Icon or the desktop. Nothing. It's like right click no
longer works. I tried the Enable Right Click Context Menu registry tweak
from Kellys-Korner, but that does not work either. Anyone have any ideas
at all? The problem just occurred on a Compaq laptop running XP SP2.

When did the problem occur for the first time? After the installation of software, perhaps? Maybe a context menu handler installed by a third-party application is hanging the display of the context menu. Take a look at this article by Ramesh Srinivasan [MS MVP]:

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers

Hi LH:

What values do you have in...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

That are set to; 0000001

David,

All are set to (0) except for NoDrive TypeAutoRun, which is set to
(145). I think it may be a hardware problem with my laptop. I just tried
a USB mouse and it works fine. Using the built in left and right mouse
pad buttons, the right one works only if I apply a significant amount of
pressure. Anyway, thanks for answering. Looks like it's time for a new
laptop.
