Right Click -- New -- Context Menu

Hello all,

I have a question, is there any way to add a program to the right click --
new context menu? I am trying to add a new file like when you right
click --> new --> Text Document. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

I tried that and it did not work. At the bottom of the page it only seems
to apply to Windows 95. If you know anything I may have missed, please let
me know.

Hi,

Sorry I didn't even read it.. It did however seem to work for me. I move an
MP3 file called test.mp3 to C:\windows\shellnew then in regedit under
hk_classes_root\.mp3 I created a new key called 'ShellNew' under that I
create a new string value called 'FileName' and gave it the value test.mp3..
Now when i right click and select new i have the option for an MP3 file and
it creates a copy of test.mp3.

other than that i believe TweakUI lets you create these templates
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx.

I tried it, and its still not working. I am using it to make a new default
php file. Did you have to reboot to make it work?

It does not seem to work with any text based application, I tried it with
..txt, .php, .php3, .htm, and .html.

Ok.

Try this :)

Create the file and that ShellNew thing like it suggests. If you just want
to start with a blank file you can use NullFile rather than FileName under
shellnew.

Under Hkey_Classes_Root find .php / select it and in the right windows it
should have should a name assigned to default (eg my says php_auto_file)
Now under hk_classes_root find and select that key (i would select
php_auto_key) double click the default item in that and give it a name that
you want displayed on the menu.

This appeared to work for me.. No reboot needed but the first couple of
times i right clicked it wasn't there, then it just appeared :)

Hope this helps and makes sense
