Revert to XP MBR?

I have Slackware 9.1 and XP on the same machine but two different
drives. XP is on hda and Slack in on hdb.

It's been setup that way for 2(?) years without an issue, but now I
want to split the drives up, putting them in separate machines (cases).
When I detached hdb (Slack) the original machine won't boot up.

hda (xp) is the master and hdb (Slack) is the slave. Removing the
slave shouldn't stop the master from booting.

I've tried cable select and every other permutation of jumper settings,
but I'm pretty sure this is because I put LILO on the MBR on hdb(?)

It seems like it goes to hdb first, then gets directed to Slack or XP.

My boot.ini looks like:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect

If I detach hdb (linux), leaving only hda (XP) as the master and ran
fdisk /mbr or fixmbr from the Recovery Console, would that allow XP to
boot up?

Thanks,
John

That should work just fine. Linux Lilo is now your boot loader. You
need to change your WinXP drive back to the WinXP boot loader. The
fixmbr should do that. And I think there is a fix boot or something
similar that you may also need to run.

Good luck, jimbo
