Restoring MBR

I'm dual-booting XP and Linux: XP on Drive0 and Linux on Drive1
(/dev/hda and /dev/hdb, respectively).

I have a Linux boot floppy which works to boot into Linux. I would
prefer to use it, instead of the boot loader (GRUB) that Linux put in my
C: boot sector.

Apparently XP doesn't recognize the FDISK command, so the old process of
using "fdisk /mbr" doesn't work anymore. My question, then, is: How
do I go about restoring the old MBR to the C: boot sector?

Ray, you can do it from the Recovery Console.

or get a Win98SE floppy bootdisk from here. www.bootdisk.com Just
set the Floppy Drive as first boot device in the
Bios. When at the A:\ type: fdisk /mbr
Rich, I took your second alternative there--the Win98SE floppy.
Everything worked like a charm. I now have my original boot record in
the boot sector; the system boots directly into XP; and all that remains
is to update the Linux boot disk--the work of a half-moment.

Thanks for your help, Rich. I am again a happy camper! [[grin]]
