Below is typical setting for an Win XP system. If I were to install a Windows
98 in
a second harddisk in the same PC, what is the additional changes needed in
Boot.ini in order to enable boot from XP and chooose whether to log in as
Windows XP or 98 ?

Thanks for you help...

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

The usual procedure to have a dual-boot system is to install the older
operating system first then install the newer. In your case you should have
installed 98 then XP.

Hello All,

Pedestrian: could you use this procedure for your problem? cause it assumes
XP installed on a FAT32 system and Win98 on the same drive, and your
configuration was different.
I have the same problem and would like to know if this works when XP is on a
NTFS system and Win98 has been installed on a different partition....
Thanks
e.

This can only be accomplished if certain procedures are followed.

[boot loader]
timeout=8
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=AlwaysOff
C:\="Windows 98"

And if XP is on NTFS then it has to be on the second partition. The win98
has to be on the boot partition "C:"
