"reuse windows for launching" not working

I got rid of a brower hijacker a few days ago, but since then the "reuse
window when launching shortcuts" doesn't work. Clicking on some links in IE
brings up another instance of IE, and uses a very small window (way too
small to be useful).

I tried unchecking it, saving, restarting. And then checked it, saved it,
and restarted, etc. Nothing I tried worked.

Is there another setting that affects this, or how can I fix it?

You need to work on the small window only, open to that one and then close
all other windows>right click on your Task Bar, either on the open space on
the right or left end>select "Tile Windows Horizontally" and IE will
maximize; close IE. Re-open IE and it will be maximized.
If that fails post back.
