Reuse Win2K Terminal Server

I am working for a client who has a powerful Windows 2000
Terminal server that is not being used and they would
like to reappropriate as a file server instead. What
they would like to do is move their most active share
points off of a current file server to the Terminal
Server since the box is no longer being used. Basically
they would be using the Terminal Server as a File Server
without any term svcs connections, etc... Simple file
share point. Would it be required to reinstall windows
2000 server without the Term Svcs enabled to accomplish
this? I want to make sure there aren't any licensing or
performance problems with users accessing the data once
it is moved. All of the workstation are Win2K. Any
advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in
advance.

Just go to add/remove programs and remove Terminal Services.

Regular Windows licensing is also needed for terminal services, so it should
already be configured as needed.
You can check by going to control panel- licensing, and ensuring you are in
per server/ or per seat as necessary for your environment.

That should be it though.

A complete fresh install shouldn't be necessary:

* uninstall all user applications
* uninstall Terminal Services (in Add/Remove programs - Add/Remove
Windows component). You could also switch mode to TS in Remote
Administration mode, which gives you remote access to the File
Server
* deactivate the TS Licensing Server (might reside on a different
server, most likely the DC)
* uninstall the TS Licensing Services
