If I am in an email, then delete it, the next email opens. How do I stop
this and return to inbox when I delete an email.

Are you reading emails in the preview pane or are you opening them
in their own window?

If the latter, don't delete the email when you have it opened. Close
the window, then delete the email from the message list. You may
also want to turn off the preview pane if you haven't already done so.

Gary: I am sure your response is appreciated. However, there must be some
programming error because Mail provides for the message to be deleted after
and while it has been and is open. Your thoughts. Thanks

Yes, Windows Mail allows you to delete a message while it is opened,
but if you use that feature you also have to live with its pre-programmed
behavior to open the next message.
