Retrieve protected files

In my old win xp, I set my "My documents" path to another
drive eg "d:\" and set password protected.

When I format my c:\ and re-install win xp, i created
exactly same user-id and password and point my "My
documents" in d:\, my files are not seen anymore. I did
not format my d:\ so I think the protected files are
still inside.
How can I retrieve the files back?

Password protected or Encrypted ?
If encrypted, you should have exported your certificate for the account.
Without that, you are unlikely to be able to access the data.

What do you mean by password? Anyway all users are unique. Users are a long random number with a particular display name. Therefore the previous user no longer exists irrespective of similar names.
