retrieve e-mail after using the "delete" button

I accidentally erased two e-mails by hitting the "delete" button on the
computer. I can't find the e-mails anywhere. I thought they would be routed
to the "delete" folder but they are not there. I also tried the function to
restore permanently deleted e-mails but they did not appear in that folder
either. It seems that if you erase e-mails the regular way by using the
"delete" function or moving items to the "delete" folder in Outlook you can
somehow retrieve these e-mails, but there seems no way to do this if you hit
the "delete" button on your computer.

It's a hard delete.
You need to modify "DumpsterAlwaysOn" registry key in order to restore
those hard delete items.
If the registry key not modified, you will not see hard deleted items
in the"Restore Deleted Items" Dialog box

Pressing the Delete key is identical to clicking Delete. Items get moved to
your Deleted Items folder either way. Holding Shift while you delete,
however, is a permanent deletion.

If you have more than one set of folders, deleting an item goes to the
Deleted Items folder of the set of folders the item was in when you deleted
it. If that item wasn't in your default folders, it won't be in the default
Deleted Items folder.

The Recover Deleted Items feature and what Benny Van referenced is, I
believe, available only if you're using Exchange.
