E-mail messages in the Task List

Dan S

I recieve e-mails that I will drag and drop into my task list which works
very well. The challenge is once the task is complete when I try to delete
it, it wants to delete the original e-mail as well. When I try to move it to
another folder (Inbox) it will not move out of the task list. I could of
course create a task and then copy the e-mail into the task but I have
e-mails already there that I need to clear out.

Your assistance is appreciated!

I am a little confused about what you want to be able to do.

Do you want to remove the email from the Task and place it back in the
Inbox? If so, just reduce the size of the Task, grab the email and drag it
back to the Inbox. Oh - you'll need to have dragged with the right mouse
button to make the Task as it then allows you to have the email as an
attachement within the Task.

If that's not what you want to be able to do, come back and clarify.

Thanks for you response. I want to remove the e-mails from the task list. I
have tried as you suggested to no avail. The only option that allows me to
remove it is to delete it but that will delete the original as well. I have
tried a move to another folder, right click and drag, left click and drag-
all to no avail

When you drag an email into your task folder you are in effect flagging the
email for followup. It is still an email item located in your inbox and not
actually in your task folder. When you mark it complete it will continue to
list in your task folder as a completed task but if you notice the icon it
is still an email. If you want to remove it from the task list you'll need
to clear the flag. Do that by double clicking on the item and click on the
flag and then click clear flag. It will disappear from your task list but
it is still a mail item located in whatever folder it was in when you
dragged it to your task list. Hint, you can do this same task without the
drag and drop. Hover over the flag icon in the message list while it is in
your inbox and click "Add Reminder". Set the reminder. Now go look in your
task list. It's there.

If you drag an email to the Task folder it will become a Task - not a
flagged email.

There are two ways to drag an email to Tasks, and Dan try the Right mouse
drag, you'll then have a Task with an email in it as an attachment. It will
then be easy to take the email back out if you ever want to.

An alternative to turning emails into Tasks is to Flag the email and have it
show up in the Daily Task list (only works in 2007). This approach uses
flagging not Tasks (even though Microsoft then call it the Daily "Task"
list). If you delete the flagged email it is gone. You can "complete" the
flag.
