Retrieval of oversaved Document

Tom

HELP!!! Working with Word 2000 in Win98, I have taken a
long, very important document to borrow it's header, and
after constructing a second document hit "Save" rather
than "Save As", oversaving the original, irreplaceable
file. Is there any way that I can retrieve what was
originally written?

If you have not closed the file yet, you likely can Ctrl+Z to undo the
changes, and then save the file. Then press Ctrl+Y to redo the changes, and
Save As the file. If you've closed the file, then you're most likely out of
luck (unless you have backups turned on).

Hi Tom

Check Tools>Options>Save>Always create a backup copy. If you have this option
checked and you have only saved over your document once you should be in luck.
If you've saved in more than once then your going to spend time recreating the
original :(

Ok, if the then option is enabled and you've only done the one save, then:

Check in the same folder as the file and check for a file called "Backup of"
Your filename ".wbk". Then just double click on it to open it in Word.

Thanks for the idea, Peter, but unfortunately I'm out of
luck there. Looks like I'm up for a big job of starting
again!
