Resume after Hibernate difficulty

J

Justin Thyme

Using Windows XP, additional 2GB RAM installed 12/20/07, approximately two
months after purchase of new computer.

Problem: When I choose to Hibernate instead of StandBy the close-down
procedure seems to work normally. But when I attempt to wake up the
computer later, hardly anything works correctly. I cannot access any
desktop shortcut icons unless I do a right-click/open and even that fails
most of the time. If I attempt to open a program with a left mouse click or
double-click all the icons above (higher up on the desktop) are shaded as if
selected and I receive a warning message of the type "You are about to open
29 programs simultaneously which will result in slowing down your computer
considerably. Do you want to proceed?" Of course I do not want to proceed!

Following the suggestion of another contributor at a different Windows XP
newsgroup I went to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event
Viewer/Application and was surprised at all the Red-X error lines associated
with MsiInstaller. Out of 1580 total entries there must have been 400 or
more error lines from MsiInstaller. The frequency or nature of the errors
did not change because of the additional memory.

What's wrong that I cannot resume from a Hibernated computer? (StandBy
works fine.)

Your help is much appreciated.
