Restricting Users from installing programs

Can I restrict users (kids) from installing programs and deleting programs?
If so, how it this done? I want to disable the ability to download hack
software and stop them from installing anything without permission.

Thanks,

Set them up with a limited user account. Do this in the control panel, in
the User Accounts section.

Will this allow me to restrict them from running .exe files? I was able to
do so under their Account, not sure I have everything correct.

Thanks.

If I set them up as limited users, does this stop them from installing
programs? I was able to download and install a freeware viewer program
(Irfanview) while in their account.

Thanks

It should. Limited accounts don't allow software to be installed. I will
check up a little more on this. If I don't post/find any information stating
otherwise, then it should be ok to just give them "Limited User" status

Tony Norman,

Thanks, I appreciate the help. We've had so many crashes I'm starting to
actually understand and be able to re-install all of the programs and drivers
without any notes. I really want to be sure that they are not able to add
any of the music pirating programs and such to the computer.

Ok, I too am having difficulties blocking/restricting downloading and
installing programs. I work at a hotel and we have a computer in the lobby
for guests to use. I have issued a limited account, installed spyware
blaster, went to kelly's page and disabled downloads per IE users, I also
tried installing Firefox. Normally it wouldn't be an issue, I could just
restore it, however it also has documents on it (under the admin login which
is password protected) pertaining to the hotel and its a pain in the butt to
keep loading the files back on the computer. Any other suggestions that
might work, that i haven't already tried?

Any help,
Shauna
