I turned on my computer and it said that a windows 32 file was missing and to
reboot from the original file. If I do a system restore (us restore cd) is
there any way for me to go back to the previous restore to get my files back
or is there another way to get my computer to work all together?

Hi Deo,
Try this;
Click on Start, then select RUN Command and in the Text Box type this:
sfc /scannow and Press OK.
Get your XP CD handy to hand it in for the files to be copied fro it.
If still no joy try System Restore to an Earlier Date before the Error
Message occured.

Scan for Malware/Grayware on your machine and be sure it is clean.
Hope this helps
Please let us know

windows xp could not start because the following files were missing or
corrupted: windows\system32\config\system **something** missing
you can try to repair this file by starting the windows setup program from
original floppies or boot from cd-rom
select 'r' at first screen to repair

the only cd i have is the two restore cds. when i bought my computer a
couple years ago; it was a display model; so they gave me the manuals, etc
they had

Have you tried booting from cd instead of the hd? go into your bios / cmos
setup and set your boot priority to cd and save. your restore cd's may
engage an automated recovery process and restore your windows. it is
unlikely that you will loose any documents since you are likely
restoring/repairing only windows. however, it doesn't seem that you have a
choice at this time except to use the restore cd's and hope for the best. If
you do get back into shape, try making some backups afterwards.....

Firstly, lets see if you can get operational again. If so, then the first
thing to see and try is if your system has a "recovery" management software.
This software may have built your restore cd's and may also provide you with
a method to create a back of your system or create a disk image of your
system. This software will probably be evident to you when your newly
restored system restarts and displays a notification upon desktop startup.
If not, then you can use NTBACKUP which is included in Windows XP. Do a
search for it or on the net.....
