I recently ran a Recovery with Automatic Data Backup in Windows Vista. When
I signed in to Windows Mail, I was forced to re-set up my email account. Now
I can only see the new emails while my old email files are in a Backup
folder. I found the old email files and copied them into the folder where my
current email files are, but they don't show up when I open the new Windows
Mail. I am baffled as I am able to see the contact files after going through
the same copy/paste actions. Why does Windows Mail read the old contacts but
not the old email files?

You need to import the files so they will be added to the index file, not
just
copy them into the folder. The contacts file apparantly does not need this.

WM uses a database, called the message store to keep track of messages.
Apparently, it doesn't know about the ones you copied from the backup.

You might try this update.. it's intended to delete an stuck email, but it
might fix your problem too...
If it doesn't work, try the manual method halfway down the page...
Method 1: Rebuild the message store of Windows Mail
