Hi all,

I have had a nasty issue with a damaged outlook profile. I did have the error:
"the operation failed due to a registry or installation problem", what did
lead me to articles telling me to create a new profile, so I did, it however
does not solve the problem.......

I have now 2 profiles, one working and one where nothing else works, except
outlook starts, nothing else can be done.

In the damaged profile I had an large address book, (No copy or backup) and
over 25 rules managing incoming mail, forwarding rules and preventing rules.
I can't make a backup and import them.

Is there any way I can get these rules back from the .PST files?
I do have several of these and some of them seem not to be updated after
creating the new profile.

I was in the middle of rebuilding the machine when this happened, hence the
reason I do not have a proper backup

When you created the new Profile did you add your origonal data file, or?

What version of Outlook?
What is the size of the pst?
Was this pst created in this version of Outlook?

Q: When you created the new Profile did you add your origonal data file, or?
A: I can not specify the original outlook.PST file. I can add it as a 2nd
file but I can not make it the default file.

Since Outlook does use the primary file to store the rules, etc. it never
will access the rules in the secundary file. (At least that is my
understandiong of it).

Q: What version of Outlook?
A: Outlook 2003 Prof with SP3

Q: What is the size of the pst?
Original outlook.pst is 109.137 KB Explorer:

I have now moved all mail from that PST into another PST and compressed the
original PST file what has brought the size down to 450 K in Outlook and
2.001 K in Explorer

Q: Was this pst created in this version of Outlook?
A: Yes it was created in this version

You add your old data file, then set that as the default msg store (do this
with/in the mail applet)

Yes you can, using the Mail applet's "E-mail Accounts" button. After adding
the data file with the Data Files button, finish that dialogue then back in
the Mail applet click E-mail Accounts>Next and change the "Delivery new
e-mail to the following location" drop-down at the lower left. Click
FInish.

Is there also a way to restore the Address book from this file? As this is
still empty after swapping the outlook.pst file.

Thanks

I just figured this out, so this issue is now sorted.
Thanks for your help.
