Restoring files from Windows 98

We just upgraded to Windows XP from Windows 98. We backed up all of our old
data on CD, using the cd packet writing program CeQuadrant Just!Burn. Now,
although Windows works great, our backup disks say they are empty. When we
checked them on Windows 98 before the upgrade, all of the info was there. I
even checked on my daughter's laptop which runs Windows XP and the files show
on the D drive. Why won't MY computer see it?
