Restoring Active Directory

M

Matt

Using Veritas BackupExec 8.5 with Windows 2000 server.

I'm trying to do some test restores for disaster recovery
planning, and anytime I restore the System State of my
real server top the test server, either via BackupExec or
NT Backup, the test server won't boot back up...blue
screens with "inaccessible boot device".

The short story is, the server I'm restoring to is
virtually nothing like the server that it is being backed
up. I've at least made the volume sizes of the drives
the same...but they're just ATA drives and my "real"
server is all RAID.

My guess is this is a lot like trying to throw a Ferrari
engine in a Fiat and thus, a giant waste of time, but I
can't find any documentation on just restoring AD to a
different computer.

Anyone?

Restoring Active Directory to Dissimilar Hardware
It is possible to restore Active Directory to a computer other than the
original computer, both computers must have the same number of disk drives.
Also, if the replacement domain controller has a different video adapter or
multiple network adapters, uninstall them before you restore data. When you
restart the computer; Plug and Play functionality makes the appropriate
updates.
