1. use the restore cds that came with your computer.
2. use a restore partition that might be made when you
bought it.
3. reformat your harddrive after booting from a floppy,
make sure there is a generic mouse and generic cdrom
driver, and insert your windows xp installation cd and
reinstall from that.
I did #1 and 2 for my compaq that i bought in 2001, i did
#3 for a windows 98 machine i bought in 1997. Though you
should make sure you have all the stuff before you try any
of those options...
