restore xp pro?

My mom has a Hewett Packard P.C. , she did have windows xp pro well i put a
sound blaster live instalation C.D. in, well it locked up on me, so i put the
H.P.system recovery discs in , i think their were 8 discs ,ok it worked fine
except now when the screen came on it said xp home edition all her files,
settings and programs were either gone or damaged welli tried system restore
but all the restore points were gone i could only go back to that day....How
can i undo for wich i have done???

When you use a computer manufacturer's recovery or restore CD,
all personal files are deleted as it will return the computer to its
original factory configuration. You should have performed a backup
to a CD, DVD, or external drive prior to using the HP recovery procedure.

Oh dear, I'm afraid you can't. You put the system recovery CDs in and told
the PC to return to a state in which it was when it first left the retailer.
So it did exactly did and formatted the hard drive and wiped out all the
data that was on the hard drive.

I guess you and your Mom are going to have to sit down and have a little
chat....
