Restore WinXP Pro > WinXP Home?

Hello,
I recently upgraded my operating system from Windows XP
Home to Windows XP Pro on my Toshiba 5200 laptop. After
upgrading, I tried to install XP SP1 but as soon as I
restart after the installation, I lose operation of both
my wireless mouse and my cPad (touchpad).

I have installed an updated driver for the cPad, and that
still hasn't fixed the problem. I tried installing the
Network install SP1 that I could download to my computer
instead of just installing it from Windows Update. That
had the same result. When I uninstall SP1 everything
works normally again.

It may be possible that I had WinXP Home with SP1
installed, when I installed WinXP Pro. I know now that
this is not a supported way to upgrade, according to the
Microsoft website.

Is it possible to restore my system back to Windows XP
Home? Then I could remove SP1 and then reinstall XP Pro
again. Would this work? How would I do this? Do you
think that it would fix my problem?

Thanks,
Judy

Back up all your data.

If provided with a restoration CD/media - use it to restore the PC to
original specs.
If provided with a Windows XP Home CD.. Use it to clear all partitions and
perform a clean install of XP then install all of your applications
manually.

You cannot "uninstall" XP Professional from an upgrade via the XP Home path.

If you have an upgrade version of WinXP Pro, and a regular XP Home CD (even
if it's OEM - it just can't be a bundled, branded "recovery CD), you can
boot from the XP Pro CD, do a clean install, and insert the old CD when
prompted for a valid upgrade product.
