restore to factory settings

hi i have windows xp and its running really slow. ive been told to restore it to factory settings but i dont know how? it will only let me restore to a couple of months ago.
please help!!

Are you looking at the system restore tool?

You might need to use the CDs that came with your PC to reset it back to the default settings - you will lose everything on your PC though.
