Restore start taskbar buttons - incl. show desktop button

I have lost the small icons for programs usually found
next to the start icon in the bottom taskbar. Besides the
program buttons, I lost the "show desktop button" forcing
me to minimize running programs to get to the desktop.How
do I restore these?
 
I have just done the same thing, and you can restore it,
but I can't seem to get it to place in the same place next
to the start menu button :

right click on the inactive part of the toolbar and choose
Toolbars, click on Quick Launcher, that will bring it
back, but it seems to bring it back on the right hand side.

If u find a solution to THAT post it back!!
