restore points

Running Vista home premium on an ACER M1202. Can't start a Restore Point on
the shadow (D) drive.
Looked at many online postings that desribe how (maybe) to fix the problem.
Nothing works.
Why can't Microsoft issue a patch to fix this very prevalent problem? Thanks
for reading this.

In OEM installations "D" drive is for OS only (shouldn't be added to). No
need for SR.

Gracias a los puntos de restauración he podido arreglar muchos problemas.
tengan políticas de siempre hacer puntos de restauración. Kaspersky casi
dañó mi computadora, cuando caducó la licencia y no la iba a renovar, empezó
a dar errores y dejaba a mi computadora siempre como suspendida

I managed to find some advice on Microsoft Communities and their help pages.
While most of the advice probably could be done by a software engineer, it
took me three days of trying to decipher the instructions and apply the
advice which surprisingly did work out. I basically had to do with renaming
a Windows 32 System dll folder and a lot of restarting the computer. Wish I
could tell more but I find most advice givers think we computer users are
wizards. Anyone who tried to answer my original post is to be thanked except
for the Spanish language one I had to translate using babelfish.com and did
not help the problem at all.
