Restore points created by WD

With the latest build, I'm getting a 'Windows Defender Checkpoint' restore
point created every time it detects something and I allow (essentially apps
that are not yet classified and that I have not yet put in the exclude list).
This is a nuisance. I don't need three or four additional restore points
every day.
I've not found a setting to stop it.

Any one have any ideas?

I guess the only solution is to switch off "System Restore" and right click
at "My computer", "Properties". Check box (System Restore Disable), and
reboot.
Trouble is, all the other points vanish...
U have to decide upon it. But I assume it is a bug of this new version - the
one before hasn't had this feature.

Or...My computer, disc C, right click , Properties, Disk-Maintenance, run,
other options, check delete old restore points (one recent checkpoint
remains).

I agree.
Microsoft, this is Very IMPORTANT TO ME, and I'm sure it is to others as well.

I already have 9 (NINE) new restore points in 2 Days (counting the unistall
of the last version and the install of this one. I normally create one
myself about every three days in addition to the ones created by Windows
Update.

I didn't mind it when a restore point was created when the program updated
itself,
but 3 or 4 A DAY!!! The average retore point takes up 20-25 MBs AFTER it's
compressed. This thing is going to eat up my hard drive at this rate, or at
the very least cause the deletion of older restore points that are more
meaningful to me in what they represent / tell me.

I NEED to hear that this being addressed!!!
I have been "lurking" in this newsgroup since last July and have been
content to listen and learn. The group has been very helpful. But I watch
my Disk usage like a mother hen!
Defender has some problems, but it's BETA, and I accept that. But NO Program
is going to take up 350MBs of my disk space.

I will have to uninstall the program and wait till this issue is addressed.
Anyone had any problems uninstall the latest version? I figure I' do it
next weekend if I don't hear of a fix.

Sorry my First posting is so negitive.

You Guys are Great by the way,
Tim

Tim:
i will AGREE with you. way too many restore points from WD.

MS, why are you programming WD, to make restore points?

MS, why are you programming WD, to make more than ONE restore point per day?
(if this is true?)

i am only interested in having WU/MU create, and windows itself create the
restore points.

MS, PLEASE ADD the option in WD, to ask the user, if they want to have WD
create restore points.

please reply to: (e-mail address removed)

I only have one item listed in my Windows Defender 'History' area, yet
Defender has created 5 checkpoints today. Ridiculous.

Hello James & Tim

Hello Every1!
Bein truly disappointed is 1 issue-the poor performance of such a high
quality - product as WD is another.
I've become so desperate 2 discover all those new restore checkpoints (8
restore checkpoints in 2 days -eatin up my diskspace!) that I disabled
realtime protection and have WD service stopped.
Not uninstalled yet, but not far from that at least.
Right now no more restore points.
I run another realtime application (it aint recommended to run more than 1
at a time), but frankly speaking I was quite satisfied with WD so far, and I
wish this new breed worked the way as its predecessor.
It is a REAL NUISANCE for all of us. Hopefully Microsoft abandons this bug
ASAP.
Best wishes from Hungary!

Since installing the latest Engine 1.1.1303 Defender restore points are
being created several times a day. I have not been able to see what
triggers them off. Nothing has been detected by Defender so what on earth is
going on?
From other posts it appears to be a widespread problem or maybe universal to
all installations. I guess that this has not been reported before because
few users actually look at their System restore points on a daily basis and
some may indeed have them turned off.
From my point of view I would much rather have a set of useful restore
points going back over several days than huge clusters of unnecessary
restore points crowding them out.
Please post here if on checking your System restore points you find several
Defender restore points per day. Perhaps then the powers that be may get
this bug squashed sooner rather than later.

I hope a MS person comments on this soon. I'm lucky (maybe) that I do not get
a system restore point enforced by my WD refresh version.

An addendum to my previous post. These extra restore points started with the
latest build 1.1.1347. which I installed on the 13th.Inst. ( unlucky for
some?)

Surely, the MS guys are aware that every time WD version 1.1.1347.0 is
active it is creating a Windows Defender Checkpoints. Ask WD to run a quick
scan, you will have a restore point. Disable Automatic scanning and click
Save, you will have a restore point. However, the MS guys have chosen to
remain silent on this issue.

Nevertheless, we should not forget that if MS fools us once the shame is on
MS,
and if MS fools us twice the shame is on us. Last, but not the least, if MS
fools us three times the shame is on both MS and us.

Cheers!

Already this morning Defender has created two more spurious restore points.
The first immediately after boot up the second when I was not even there and
nothing was being run.
Clicking on all the restore points gives the message " Restores your
computer to the point before this program was removed". The problem being
that I have not removed it and it is still there!!
Perhaps I should take the hint and do just that.
Richard.

Recommendation - as I see this bug: wait until this bug is fixed, unless U
want to loose all Your previous restore-points, when disk-maintanance
performed. In the meantime use CounterSpy instead (same motor, even more
sophisticated update-definition base, and easy to use. It is a No 1
antispyware-software according to professionals.
CounterSpy's only disadvantage its demand for a large amount of resource
(memory), this is a robust, complex program - very reliable on the other hand.
Or use Ad-Aware Pro's Ad-Watch, Ewido Anti-Malware , or WinPatrol (my
favorite)
But only ONE realtime protection at a time is recommended! In case U use
more, it disturbs Your system, making it unstable.
Personally I was quite satisfied with Defender -Beta, and am looking forward
to get this annoying bug fixed by Microsoft.
Keep in mind, that is a BETA-Build.:)

A bit drastic !!
Surely simpler to edit the System Volume Information Dossier;thereby
eliminating the SUPERNUMERARY endless repititions of Windows Defender Check
Points.
For example I have just eliminated 15 Check Points ; all previous to my
Ad-Aware SE update this afternoon; that is SE1R104 Build 122 now with 56112
Signatures.
Until MicroSoft fix this "bloody" annoying bug I shall probably on a weekly
basis eliminate my unwanted "RP's" on every Sunday morning as a penance!!

I am getting several restore points daily from Defender also. I guess I
will have to clear all but the last restore point periodically, if this
continues. So much for automatically doing things.
