Yes...each restore point will take up some room on your HD...
you can go into the control panel and adjust how much space you want
allocated to system restore.
By default , Windows sets aside a lot more space that you really need.

The resore point is kept in your "system volume information" folder.
By default, you cannot access it.

the restore point will only
preserve your system files
and not your personal files,
like documents and pics.

so making a restore point
everyday would not be helpful
unless you are going to alter
the windows system files by
installing new programs every
day.

what you need to do is to
make a restore point whenever
you install a new program.

also, you need to manually make
copies of your documents and
pics and keep them on a separate
partition or cd. there are various
methods that can be used to fit
your life style.

Also, if someone leaves his/her machine turned on 24x7, a restore point is
automatically made every 25 hours or so by the Operating System. These show
as "System Checkpoints" in the System Restore GUI.

that's an interesting
point you mentioned.

there is more information
on it at:

Q. Why isn't System Restore creating automatic system checkpoints?

A. Typical reasons why checkpoints are not being created:

. System Restore requires Task Scheduler to create system
checkpoints. If Task Scheduler is disabled it will prevent System Restore from
creating system checkpoints on a scheduled basis.

. System Restore requires the computer to be in an idle state to
create system checkpoints. This is by design so that System Restore does not
interrupt a user by taking processing power. If computer is never idle, system
checkpoints cannot be created. Also, check for any applications that run on the
computer during idle periods, such as a virus scanner.

. The computer has been in use for limited periods and then shut
down or put into hibernation, preventing System Restore from creating restore
points.

--------------------------

it would be "highly" unusual
for the processor to be idled
for that length of time.

your point is appreciated,
thanks.
