Restore is Off and still 30 GB is missing with Vista Business

I have a new laptop with vista Business installed. Hard disk is 90 GB with
only one drive (c). The system restore is Off. Hibernate is Off. Total file
size count is not more than 30 GB and its showing 30 GB free disk space.
Where is other rest 30 GB? There is not shadowing or anyother program
running. Please help...

Well, for one, is it really 90 GB, or is that what the hard drive
manufacturer says it is? If they say it is 90 GB, then it is actually
smaller because they go by base 10 instead of 2, so to them 1 GB is 1000 MB
instead of 1024 GB.

But of course that doesn't account for all that space. And you might have
already known that. But it is a chuck of space you need to take into account
when you are doing your calculations... all 2 GB of it.

You do know that System Restore and Volume Shadow Copy will use less space
as your hard drive starts to fill up right? At any time you can run Disk
Cleanup and the system will adjust the amount of space used based on how
much free space there is. You can also just disable then enable System
Restore and it will adjust the space used based on the amount of free space.
