Restore Active Desktop (IE7)

hi,

I am running on Windows XP Pro SP2 and IE7 with all available updates from windows update.

I keep on getting the "Restore Active Desktop" white screen and when I click restore I get a script error referring to a file desktop.htt which I could never find.

Whether I choose "Yes" to continue running the script or "No" nothing happens. Clicking "Yes" used to repair the problem under IE6.

The only possible solution that I found is to do the following:
1.. uninstall IE7
2.. restart
3.. now that IE6 is running, restore active desktop
4.. restart
5.. install IE7
6.. restart
7.. install IE7 updates
8.. restart
9.. hope and pray that it works... (4 out of 5 times) it works. If not go to Step 1 above.
This process is annoying and time consuming, particularly that I would have to do this quite often ranging from 2-3 times a day to once a week.

A few weeks ago I found a solution here by which the value of a certain registry key will have to be changed to Decimal Zero.
That did not fix my problem.

Please advise.

Thank you,
Saleem

Saleem,

Do you need to run Active Desktop? Are you displaying web content on the
Desktop? If not, right-click the Desktop| Properties | Web tab & uncheck
SHOW WEB CONTENT ON MY ACTIVE DESKTOP, click APPLY then click OK

If you do then take a look at these article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308260

Its not built for IE7, but will give you a basic idea of some easy steps to
follow

You can also post to this newsgroup:

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

The Desktop file you cannot find is because its a hidden file & I wouldn't
worry about it

Thank you for your fast reply.

Actually I am not displaying web content on my desktop.
Right clicking on my desktop | Properties | Customize Desktop | Web tab
I have only one item there "My Current Home Page" and it is unclicked.

There is no "Show Web Content on My Active Desktop" box.
All I have is 4 buttons "New", "Delete" (which cannot be used for "My Current Home Page"), "Properties", "Synchronize" and 1 box "Lock desktop items".

Thank you,
Saleem
