restarts and hd writing

I just built up a new computer w/ asus m.b. and an amd
2600+ processor. my two questions are, number one, the
computer restarts randomly without any warning or error
message. the "restart automatically" box in the startup
and recovery area has been unchecked with no change. the
computer is on all day and it happens once or twice a day.
fortunantly it hasn't happend when i've been working on
it. number two is that the harddrive constantly is
churning or writing (???) in bursts about every two
seconds.

Karl, what is the Wattage of the Power Supply? Is it amd approved?

Rich, it's a 350W supply, it's in a antec perfomance II
case that says it's AMD and Intel approved. Also something
having to do with "smart power". Could this be the
problem ???
